The destruction and degradation of Earth continues to happen at an alarming rate, despite some attempts to address it. This persists because we continue to prioritise economic growth and the continued ‘use’ of Nature over the well-being of all members of the Earth Community, and the planet as whole. We therefore need to re-orient our societies to seeking harmonious co-existence within Nature.
Through this ongoing work, we have drafted a vision for what harmonious co-existence would look like and mean for our governance systems, particularly in South Africa. This has been workshopped with activists, conservationists, and indigenous leaders. Read more here.
We have also used this approach to provide comments on the Climate Change Bill currently being drafted in South Africa.
As a member of the Climate Justice Charter Movement, we presented this work at a webinar titled ‘Beyond Sustainable Use: Redefining our Relationship with Nature through Harmonious Co-existence”. You can watch the recording of the webinar here.
